There is a newly published book by Brandon Soale that I highly recommend for your reading pleasure and enlightenment. It is titled "From Foggia to Freedom....First Hand Accounts of the Airmen of the 15th Air Force During World War IIl." I just finished reading Brandon's book and I learned so much about the war in Europe just from this one book and believe me, I have read a lot of books about the war, particularly the air war. It is well suited for the novice in learning more about the inside of the war and what our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, etc. would have experienced in the war, including the POW experience. The 463rd contirbuted some of the historical material for the book through me but a portion of the book is centered around one particular crew of the 463rd, Lt. Gale Patterson's crew, shot down 13 October 1944 on a mission to Vienna, Austria. The crew was captured and sent to POW camps.
You may obtain a copy of the book by writing directly to Brandon Soale, @ Crabapple Books, PO Box 12, Camden, OH 45311 or you can order it off Ebay using the title as the keyword search. The cost is $12.00 + $3.00 shipping. The description on Ebay pretty much covers what is contained in the book. You might want to go there and read that. Brandon says you can also contact him via email firstname.lastname@example.org to order the book. Good reading. __________________ Joel
