 Hello All,

I am new to the group and have been luck yenough to meet up with the son of one of my uncle Lou's crew mates, JJ Voss.  Jim has been great and has shared allot of what he knows.  Are there any members of the 773rd who may have known my uncle?  He started in Honolulu, was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, trained in Roswell and McDill, went to Foggia in February of '44, flew 41 missions until his unfortunate death due to complications of an appendicitis.  He was a bombardier.  Jim and i compared mission books and they match up to 85% of their missions.  Maybe one of you other fellows flew with him.

To the 463rd and all squadrons, thank you.  Thank you for my life and my freedom.

I would love to hear from anyone.

Sincerely,

Raymond M. Calamari

Ray,
I just sent your uncle, Julian, a list of all the missions I have records for that Louis Calamari flew and the ships he flew on each mission.  Would you be able to scan a copy of the mission records and send it to me via email?  I would sure appreciate it.

I assume that Louis was on one of the original crews that was assigned overseas in mid-March, 44.  The 773rd's records, including the Loading Lists, at the beginning were not very well done, many being handwritten.  After trying to copy many of them at the Nat'l Archives recently, I found it difficult to transcribe many of their first few Loading Lists and Interrogation Reports, thus having a combat mission list to compare to would be extremely helpful to me.

I can also send you a list of that I just sent to Julian, if you wish.

Hi Joel

Wow!!! that would be great.  I will scan all records for you.  Great stuff.  This is such a great web site as it truly dedicated to the 463rd.  Please send over anything you have on my uncle.  I know that one of his plane was "The Simp" as per John Vos.  Any photo's of the 773rd mess.  The photo's are fantastic that are currently posted and I loved finding the photo with his crew.  John Vos and I have been in contact.  He is the son of one of his crew.  Mr. Vos died in July'08.  I am very anxious to know if there are any of my uncles crew still around.

Did your uncle Lou fly on Pandora's Box? My dad was part of that crew and they did have a crew member (I believe a bombadier) who passed away from appendicitis.

Julie sorry for interjecting in the conversation but here is a colorized repaint of Pandora's box for the A2ASimulations WOP II B-17 add on for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
It's not perfect though.
Notice that it doesn't have the Pie Slice and Y on the tail yet like in in Joel's Pictoral CD pictures.I tried to ask a volunteer repainter (Nathan) for various repaints of 463rd
B-17's to as much of an extent that many crews at least were on one of these aircraft.
There were some mistakes with a few markings and some of the colors might be wrong. But I think he captured the feel of these aircraft.
By the way this is a very low resolution screenshot. In fact it's called a thumbnail (preview).

Oh gosh that is beautiful in spite of the missing Pie Slice and Y. Thank you for posting it. Can I get a high resolution version somewhere?

I need to load Nath's repaint of Pandora's Box in my FSX directory on my other PC which I don't have access to for at least a couple of day's.I'll see if I can can get several higher resolution screenshots of her for you.It might take a weeks time. There were a couple of  463rd B-17's that I saw that didn't have the group markings on their tails also. These were most likely painted on later.Nath so far has done well over 30 repaints of 463rd B-17's which is quite substantial. He did screw up on a couple of them though although most of the mistakes are not all that noticable. One of the aircraft he repainted as a silver ship when in fact it was an olive drab ship.I didn't tell him about this error because I didn't want him to be discouraged with constant corrections.I could tell that he was getting tired with corrections because he repainted a 99th BG B-17 with 5 corrections on that particular one for Jim Peters. My fault was in not discovering the extra group markings on the horizontal stabilizers and letting him know about it at first when he started these repaints.

Here you go.It's only in slightly higher resolution 1024 by 768 and can't be shown as high as in the simulator.

Hey Cole.  My uncle flew on a few ships.  I got copies of his crews and ships form Joel.  Off hand I know he  was on Pandoras Box and the Simp but there were a few others.  I was also able to look up their histories.  Some were sold, others were shot down.  I have not been on this site for quite sometime.  Thanks for writing back.
