Reply with quote | #1 | Volume 3 of the 463rd Pictorial History is now complete or rather as complete as I can get it with the photos, documents and diaries that I had at hand.
The CD will have the usual individual topics such as Bomb Strikes, Bombers, Personnel, etc. I have added a couple new topics such as At Home and Tuskegee Airmen.
The CD will be in its usual format with individual folders containing .jpg format pictures that can be viewed individually. There is also a video format of the same pictues accompanied by background music, hopefully mellow enough for everyone's taste.
I have also included diaries of some of the airmen who have submitted them. They are in .pdf format and will require Adobe Acrobat Reader. I thought this best as not everyone will have MS Word on their computer.
If you wish to order the CD, the cost to cover expenses is $5 each. BE SURE TO SPECIFY WHICH VOLUME OF THE CD'S YOU WISH TO ORDER. You can order them by writing to this address:
463rd Bomb Group 1233 Flanders Road La Canada, CA 91011
And I will still be collecting photos for the next CD (electronic format) or I can scan them for you.

Reply with quote | #2 | Thank you so very much for making these CD's available to us all.I can see that you put a lot a of work into these and I've found them an excellent companion to the books on the 463rd BG especially when one reads a story and can compare it to an actual photograph. It's wonderful news that now the 3rd Pictoral CD is finally available.-Jon

Reply with quote | #3 | Jon, You're welcome to the CDs. It is something that I love to do only its becoming more of a 'chore' the older I get. But I will keep going as long as possible.
The next CD I will make available will have all of the MACRs I have transcribed. The MACRs are available now if anyone wants them. They are sorted in four different ways: Pilot Name; Aircraft #; Date Shot Down; Plane Name (if known).
The one following that will be all of the Loading LIsts I have available to me currently (which is most of them, although I am missing a few). I am still in the process of transcribing these so it may be a while before this one is completed.

Reply with quote | #4 | Wow! Volume 3 is another excellent piece of work. The diaries and other memoirs alone are worth far more than the small price of the CD. Dad would have been proud to see his included. Thanks, Joel, for your dedication in producing these labors of love.

I just obtained mine in the mail too over at my mom's house. I really liked the video slidehows as well. They were excellent and I can see that you put a lot of work into this.I also thank all the other people who contributed to this.Good job folks on saving the history. I ordered extra ones for the rest of the family as well. Thank you Joel and looking forward especially to CD #4.
Edit -I loved the extra pictures from that Footnote website too. By the way here is one possibly overlooked. You might want to add this to some next Pictoral CD.Notice that the picture says the negative came from the 386th Bomb Group however when you zoom in on the picture the tail number and the Pie Slice with the Y can be seen.I can make out the first number which is 4,the next number I can't quite make out (I think that it's either an 8 or a 6) but the next 3 numbers are 247.The closest B-17 has artwork near the nose on the copilots side and all 4 of it's engines are running.Look at the caption on the right too which states B17's parked at Celone Airfield Nov 6,1944.This picture has a good shot of the hills in the background. http://www.footnote.com/image/48720313/ __________________ Son of 1st Lt. Reply with quote | #6 | Jon, The only plane I can find with #247 in the serial number is 44-8247, a PFF ship but the one in the picture doesn't really look like a PFF ship. It looks like it has a standard ball turret instead of the radome for the radar scanner. But sometimes it's hard to tell. This plane was salvaged in May, 1946 by the 9th AF.
I see that several of the planes have all four engines running. I guess they're either just returning from a mission or getting ready to go on a mission. It's a great picture. Good detective work on finding it.
