All:

I am about to complete my book I've started 18 years ago on the Rumanian
campaigns of Halpro, 9th and 15th Air Forces and have collected a wide data
base on the 26 BG's and FG's which participated on these bloody
campaigns assisted by the vets , their families and the concerned BG's
associations and the US Airmen POW Association. 463rd lost 16 planes
in Rumania and I would appreciate any help in obtaining bios and photos
to be published in my my book from anyone linked to the airmen KIA
in Rumania and  those held captive at POW's Lagarul 13 in Bucharest.

I am not certain if the 463rd has an history book published, if it does I
would like to get info on where and how to buy this. I am also reachable
at ArmyAirforces Forum   " ARROW1" and also at :
plt767e@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance
Alex K

Alex,
There was a 463rd history book published shortly after the war but it has long since been out of circulation and publication.  Occasionally you might find one at online used book stores but they are quite expensive, now being collector's items.  By quite expensive, I mean well over $150 and higher.

Hopefully you will get a response regarding your request for contact with those who may have flown on Ploesti missions.  I have a lot of photos from many of the men who flew there but I do not have permission from the veterans (many now deceased) to release or share their photos for commercial publication, which I would be required to have in hand before I could release any photos or documents.  I'm hoping that their descendants will see your post and share their father's photos with you, a much simpler process than trying to track down any of the airmen still living and acquiring permission from them to release their photos.

Swindy about the fighting 463rd book. From what I seem to remember there is an issue of copyright laws.It says on wikipedia that works published before 1964 but didn't have a renewal before the 28th year with the library of congress copyright office are in the public domain.

See here

It could be possible that the fighting 463rd book could possibly be a book in the public domain
if the book was not renewed.
If it were so then anyone could reprint it I think or even have it in a electronic form download.
You might want to check into this as it would great if everyone here
could have a public domain copy.

Also this could be possibly with the Allyn's Irish Orphans book as well.
Perhaps a copyright lawyer could check into this matter.
Oh wait I see something here
It looks like it will cost money though.

Dear Alex,

I completed extensive research a couple of years ago and a small book for my family about the service of my great uncle Jack Coogan who was a ball turret gunner on the Jaunty Joan when it went down on May 18, '44 over Ploesti. He and two other crewmen were killed on the mission. I'll contact you separately via email to send you the family piece. In the meantime, you might want to checkout this link to an abreviated version, also authored by me, that was printed on Veteran's Day a couple of years ago in New Jersey's largest newspaper:
http://cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/xcribe/csww2coho.txt

I'd love to know more about your project. I have some photos I might be able to share as well.

Bruce and All members of the 463rd Forum

I can be reached at plt767e@yahoo.com or at ArmyAirforces Forum user
ID : ARROW1

For anyone interested to know, I have worked for the last 18 years on a book
dealing with Rumania bombings campaigns of HALPRO, 9th AF , 15th AF and
RAF 205th GP . I am grateful to all vets and vets families, USAF , RAF , RAAF
RNZAF, SAAF , Rumania POW Ass US, King Michael 1st of Rumania,
Luftwaffe Archives Freiburg i.B. Germany, 2nd AD UK  ROAF all concerned
26th BG and FG's which assisted me towards this book.
My book will be printed sometimes in 2010 in Nebraska
and will contain over 2000 pages and hundreds of photos
never seen before on any of any the books published
about Ploesti bombings.

I seek your assistance to obtain photos and bios on following crews other than
the info already contained on this website :

BOLLEI

FONTENEAU

GOMOLAK

GRINNEL

HANSEN+

HEAP

KELLY

MARACK

MARTIN F

MELLINGER+

MENGE

NAMIOTKA

NOSAL

SMITH

SPENCER+

TUCKER

Currently the DPMO and its forensic teams from HI are currently in Bulgaria
to recover Menges crew remains.

Also does anyone has an idea on how Lt.Weldon Harris the
Co Pilot of Nosal crew was killed ??  The MACR remarks
that he was killed on July 7,1944 when in fact the crew was
downed on May 18,1944 !!

Any help will be appreciated

Alex, no I haven't seen the MACR but likely his cousin would know where Weldon was buried since his cousin honored him on the National WWII Memorial website.

Prior your feedback I searched through vets memorial and grave locator, he's not listed
anywhere---and yes the MACR states he died on July rather May 18th , which brings
me to the conclussion that he died of injuries at Queen Elisabeta Military Hospital in
Bucharest. The Rumanian military records confirming the MACR date as correct

Awaiting the CD's and postage cost

Best Regards
