Actually, Jon, I mis-spoke when I said it was a South African RAF Group. It was 205 Group, 31 & 34 Sqdn. South African Air Force. They flew RAF B-24s and they also had some RAF personnel seconded to their squadrons.
Although I don't know exactly when the SAAF Group arrived there, but I could find out easily as I'm in contact with some relatives of the men who served with that group. I know they were still there in March of 1945 as one of the relatives has been searching for info on her uncle who was lost on the night of 2/3 March and no evidence has been found of their aircraft.
Another relative I have corresponded with lost her father on 10 Dec 44 on another mission dropping supplies to partisans.
Several of the veterans have spoken of the SAAF men so I know they were there at the same time as the 463rd. I'm fairly certain they were still there when the war in Europe ended.
There was an RAF unit (104) apparently at Foggia Main field.
Sorry if there was confusion caused by my mis-statement.
