Hello,

My grandfather, James "Jim" Schwartz, was the co-pilot of the Pysonya when it was hit in the nose by an AA shell over some oil fields in Budapest, Hungry on July 14, 1944.  I have a letter written from a woman who I believe was datingmarried to the navigator who was instantly killed in the blast, a man whose name or nick name was Marty. I would like to see if there are any other men still left who knew my grandfather. I never met the man and would like to see if they remember anything about him. It would mean so much. Thank you very much. You can email me at R_Schwartz@Charlestonlaw. edu

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Ryan,
Obviously I overlooked your posting on the 463rd Bulletin Board regarding your grandfather, James Schwartz.  You mentioned a man named Marty and the only one of the crew that I can tell that might have been called that was Lt Martin Fainer, who was KIA. Your grandfather survived as a POW or so the records indicate.  Beyond that, I'm not much help to you other than to offer all of your grandfather's sorties/missions listed which would have date of sortie/mission, target city, specific target, aircraft flown and name (if any), formation position and crew composition by position.

If you are interested in this information, please contact me at history463rd@yahoo.com.
